My path to the tarot
I have been using several tarot decks to perform predictions and other divination for myself and others over the past twelve years. I am always amazed how accurate the cards are in conjunction with my intuition.
I started reading not on the Rider Waite deck, as most novices do, but I learned to read on the Crowley large deck using the book "The Tarot Handbook" by Angeles Arriens as my guide. "The Tarot Handbook" is an awesome guide to some basic features about the tarot and its interweaving with numerology. I also employed a number of teachers along the way who taught me some more arcane meanings of the cards.
I picked up my first tarot deck two weeks after my father died. I was 32 at the time. I was guided to begin reading at this time, and to leave the path I had previously been on in my life. At the point I picked up my first deck, I had only had two tarot readings in my entire life, and both of those were done by a co-worker for fun.
The deck I primarily use for my readings is the Cosmic tarot deck by Norbert Losche. There are a number of reasons why this deck resonates with me. First , I love movies of the 1930s and 1940s, and this deck features the images of some of the actors and actresses of that era. For example, the King of Cups has a resemblance to Clark Gable, the 9 of Pentacles features Rita Hayworth and the 2 of cups appears to be Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall locked in an embrace. Second, the deck is populated with people, and this allows me to get in quickly into the energies of different people in question. Finally, the deck literally speaks to me, and was picked for me in 1996 by a woman who owned a bookstore called Triple Moon Goddess in Okemos, Michigan.
Because of the tarot, so many things have opened up for me in my life. My life is incredibly different than it had been before, and much richer and fuller.
